Navroz Mubarak and let’s live harmoniously, eh?

on March 21, 2012

March 21st is the first day of spring.

March 21 also marks the Persian New Year and historically, and even today, the occasion is marked with celebrations leading up to and following the “new day of the year”. If you know anyone celebrating today, be sure to wish them Navroz Mubarak. (Nuv-rose Mu-bar-uk). They’ll be thrilled!

Today also marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. As a result, I’m sharing the UN’s International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination

This day was proclaimed in 1966 and was in response to an event on March 21, 1960, wherein police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid “pass laws”. More about the history of this day.

Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it.
Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it.
Hatred darkens life; love illumines it.
– Martin Luther King Jr.
