Live from Las Vegas – Travel Babble – Tuesday, June 22, 2004

on March 12, 2013

I originally circulated this email during my visit to Las Vegas in 2004. I’ll have to track down some pictures to upload as a follow-up to this post.

Hey all,

Just a quick message to say hello from Vegas. I headed here on a road trip with my friend LJ (some of you know her…) and it’s been a really great experience so far. I can’t believe I finally made it.

Getting to a computer has been a challenge, though…not that Internet cafes are hard to come by but there’s just so much to see and do everyday. And internet access is pretty expensive – $5 for 15 minutes…U.S. Yikes!

I saw the Celine Dion show my second night here and it was AMAZING. I know a lot of you shook your head when I said I was going to pay so much money to see Celine but it was worth it. Wow! The theatre it was in (Colosseum at Ceaser’s Palace) is beautiful and the perfect venue for such a show.

Everything here is big lights, big sound, lots of energy, tons of people. Can be a bit overwhelming. The “Strip” is longer than I imagined and I have yet to walk all the way down and don’t think I actually will. We head out on Thursday morning heading back to Edmonton via California. So, tomorrow, I’ll spend some time on the other end of the strip and go on some big roller coasters and rides. Then in the evening, I have tickets to see Mystere (Cirque du Soleil). Funny, eh? I go all the way to Vegas and spend my money on Canadian entertainment. That’s me, though!

I saw a really awesome magic show (David Copperfield quality, I’m told) and lots of free shows. And tonight, I went to a “Tournament of Kings” dinner at the Excaliber – the castle-shaped hotel. Very cool.

I’ll have to get to another computer on the drive home…my time’s almost up.

In a nutshell:
Bright lights, big city, lots of noise, can spend tons of money here and still not see it all, and I haven’t lost a cent in the casinos…but I may hit the nickel slots tomorrow. Living life on the edge. But looking forward to coming home to the peace and quiet of Edmonton.

See ya soon.
