Give it all you’ve got

Life is not guaranteed. It isn’t always fair. And sometimes bad things happen to good people.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. I believe in God. I even believe in miracles. Tonight, though, my faith is a bit shaken.

It’s not my story to share. This blog post is my way of dealing with my heartache for a friend.

We have no idea how long we have been given to achieve our mission. Heck, most of us don’t even know what our missions are.

I think the universal truth is we’re here to love and be loved. We want to be the kind of people whose absence is noticed when we’re no longer here.

It’s cliche to say let’s live our lives to the fullest. To say live each day as if it were our last. And to say this is the first day of the rest of our lives.

But the truth of the matter is that we don’t know which day will be our last and so why not give it all we’ve got each and every day?

Don’t put it off. Whatever it is. Get going on it.

I’m not talking about us all being movie stars and superheroes and rocket scientists. I’m talking about pursuing our passions and living with intention and surrounding ourselves with love and light.

So, what are you waiting for?

2013 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,800 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 30 trips to carry that many people.

Worth a Read

I am posting a link to a blog post by Marc and Angel because it was the exact reminder I needed. Which means someone else is in the same boat. Here it is: 6 Reasons You Aren’t Dead Yet.

Good and Evil

I’ve subscribed to various mailing lists that provide me with continuous motivation, inspiring quotes, beautiful stories, and tips and tools. One such daily email is called, Makes Me Think.

One of today’s stories “made me think” and is an inspiring example of the power of individual action. Here it is:

This story brought to mind a quote by Albert Einstein:

And it also brings to mind the following quote by Edmund Burke:

It’s my hope this story and the two quotes made you think and also I hope this post inspires each of us to take a stand against injustice, bullying, and rude behaviour.

Have a great weekend, friends.

Happy 2013

I love the start of the new year. I think of it as the perfect opportunity to reflect and review.

The new year is a great time to assess how life is going – am I achieving my goals? What am I doing that makes me happy? What do I want to do differently? With whom am I spending my time? Is there reciprocity in those relationships? Do I bring something positive to the lives of these folks? And do they do the same for me?

I believe in living life to the fullest – always have. A few eye-opener experiences over the past 18 months have helped me to gain clarity around the people and things I value.

I’ve been consciously choosing a life of gratitude for two years now. I’m committed to continuing this – it’s amazing how much better life is when looked at through thankful eyes.

Of all the “attitudes” we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing. ~ Zig Ziglar

I saw a great idea posted on Facebook. I’ve already implemented it and look forward to December 31, 2013 when I review all the great memories and experiences amassed in the next 12 months. I wonder at what point in the year I’ll need to replace the original jar with a bigger one?

Happy 2013, everyone. It’s already off to a great start with my first note of the year already in the jar. Woot!

2012 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog. Thank you for supporting me during the first year of my blog. More to come in 2013 and more regular features and posts, at any rate.

Here’s an excerpt:

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,500 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Happy 2nd Wedding Anniversary

We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.
~ Frederick Koenig

Today marks two years since C and I stood in front of Jasper’s Pyramid Lake and declared our love in front of our family members. I remember how filled with love my heart was that day.

It is so easy to close my eyes and go right back to that day – I can feel the breeze lifting wisps of my hair, I can hear my heart beat, and I can see the pride in my parents’ eyes.

In what has become true N&C fashion, what one of us does, the other balances out and so as we stood facing each other, our hands joined, my vows brought tears (of joy and gratitude) and C’s vows brought laughter (he ended up needing to pull out his iPhone as the marriage commissioner didn’t see the email he had sent).

In the quiet beauty of Jasper, we took another step in our journey together. It is one that has been filled with laughter and tears (mostly of joy and gratitude) and a whole lot of unconditional love.

So here’s to celebrating all of our milestones – the weeks, the months, and the years.

It will never cease to amaze me that the secret to a happy marriage is an attitude of gratitude.

And to conclude this blog entry, here are fitting excerpts from two of our wedding songs:

“You’re the reason I believe in love. And you’re the answer to my prayers from up above. All we need is just the two of us. My dreams cam true because of you.”
(Shania Twain’s From This Moment On)

“And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles.”
(Led Zeppelin’s Thank You)
